Putting up and decorating your Christmas tree is a holiday tradition which has been in effect for hundreds of years and will probably be in effect until the end of time. Choosing whether you want a real Christmas tree or an artificial Christmas tree is a dilemma which many of us face every year. There are many benefits to both forms of trees but there are many disadvantages as well.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding which form of Christmas tree would be best suited for you and your family:

Artificial Christmas Trees

Artificial trees eliminate the hassle of having to find time to go and specially choose a Christmas tree from the lot.

Another great thing about artificial trees is they do not need to be watered and the needles will not fall off and create a mess in your house.

The money you will save by purchasing an artificial Christmas tree can be spent on more presents for your children or possibly other forms of decorations.

Artificial Christmas trees can be put up earlier and stay up longer than real Christmas trees.

This type of tree is less of a fire hazard because the needles are not real.

Real Christmas Trees

Real Christmas trees look more attractive and have a fragrance like pine needles. Some families live for the smell of their tree at Christmas time.

It is tradition for a number of families to go cut the tree. It’s a family outing where you go and specifically choose the one you want every year.

Real Christmas trees pose a fire hazard when the branches become dry and hot from the Christmas lights.

Real Christmas trees have to be maintained and well-kept. This includes watering and removing the dead needles which have fallen under the tree.

Ultimately the decision is yours and you will choose the kind of tree that best suits your family and your preferences. If you want a tree which requires very little maintenance then maybe an artificial one would be better suited for you.

Your Christmas will be wonderful regardless of the type of tree you choose because this holiday is about loving, giving and being thankful for what you have.

When it comes to shopping for Christmas gifts, I’m famous for being the one who buys the most unique Christmas gifts. It’s a talent that has taken quite a while to develop and it all started out because I don’t like buying the common gifts everyone else picks as Christmas presents. I believe in devoting a little extra time to selecting unique Christmas gifts, it shows that you really care about the people you’re buying them for.

There are two major tips that are important when it comes to shopping for unique Christmas gifts and they have to do with the recipient of the gift and the location the gift is purchased from.

As for the recipient it’s important you find unique Christmas gifts that will be valued by that person. You have to adopt some creative methods in order to find out what that person would really like without them knowing you’re planning to get them a Christmas gift. Besides most people don’t really know what unique Christmas gifts would be when they are asked. You really have to observe them do some research on unique Christmas gifts you think they would really like before you go out to look for one.

The second tip on finding unique Christmas gifts has to do with the location you get the gift from or the location you don’t get the gift from. Avoid the local shopping mall or any regular store. It’s quite likely that you won’t find any unique Christmas gifts at these stores since they’ll be mass producing everything to make a large Christmas sale.

If you’re trying to buy unique Christmas gifts you’re better off shopping online. You can shop for some unique Christmas gifts like African antiques online. This beats buying a mass produced Christmas gift from the neighborhood mall. Finding unique Christmas gifts is not as difficult as it sounds. To get something special remember to stay online. It’s less stressful and quite easy to find unique Christmas gifts online for everyone on your Christmas gift list.

One doesn’t necessarily have to be a child to secretly wish for special gifts on Christmas. All the gifts that Santa could bring riding on his sleigh can be sent to friends and loved ones in a Christmas gift basket.

Christmas symbolizes the spirit of giving. What better way to celebrate the Christmas spirit than to send a Christmas gift basket?

All the flavors and scents of the season wrapped up in a basket convey your sincerest season’s greetings. A Christmas gift basket can manifest all that Christmas stands for. It can hold exquisite balsam fir wreaths fresh from the woods. It can also have decorations for a Christmas tree – little bells, twinkling lights, splendid ribbons and angel tree-toppers. Christmas ornaments, hand-blown from colorful volcanic ashes can be wonderful gifts that go into the basket. Christmas figurines, collectibles and nativity sets are perfect mementoes for the festive season.

The Christmas season has some special foods associated with it. Gourmet food baskets stuffed with yummies like chocolates, cookies and candies would be a mouthwatering Christmas treat. An array of fine wines is another special way of saying Merry Christmas. A Christmas gift basket filled with gourmet food will double the joy of a Christmas party. You can enjoy the goodies while you sing carols by the fire.

A Christmas gift basket is the best way to send your wishes to friends, family and professional acquaintances. It is the one thing that you need to make your Christmas perfect, besides snow!

With the introduction of beautiful Christmas trees and other decorative items, the Christmas shopping can be very enjoyable. The one thing without which Christmas would be incomplete is the Christmas stocking. Everyone, especially the kids, hangs these with a belief that Santa Claus will come and put their gifts in the stockings.

The age-old tradition related to Christmas stockings says that the original Santa Claus (Saint Nicholas) left his very first gifts of gold coins in the stockings of three poor girls who needed money for their wedding. The girls had actually hung their stockings by the fire for drying without knowing about the gift of Santa Claus. It is for this tradition that Christmas stockings are being considered auspicious on Christmas. And they are always hung over the fireplace mantle.

The mere thought of stuffed Christmas stockings hung over the fireplace mantle brings smiles to the faces of small children. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus hovers over their minds. As soon as the sun rises they get up to peak inside the stockings to see if the Santa Claus has given them their much-awaited gifts.

In the olden days it was traditional to receive small gifts like fruits, nuts, chocolates and candies in the stockings. But recently these small gift items have given way to more expensive gifts. Now the latest trend is that stockings can be stuffed with anything from school supplies and toy batteries to art and craft supplies.

The new Christmas stockings at present are made from novel materials like lace or satin, done up in creative shapes, and packed with coordinated gifts. The hot favorites among the children are the red and green color stockings with the image of Santa Claus on them. Christmas stockings are now the new Christmas gifts.

Christmas is a time for the family to share each other’s presence. There are the traditional exchange of gifts and the setting up of the Christmas trees.

Every Christmas happening that involves the whole family is worth celebrating. And speaking of celebrations, the celebration that is most celebrated is, of course, the Christmas party.

Christmas parties have so much fun that you just can’t stop smiling. However, Christmas parties without games are sure to have artificial smiles plastered on your guests’ faces. Therefore, when you are planning for a Christmas party, make sure that you have a set of games lined up under your sleeve.

Setting up Christmas games are not so difficult, you just have to think wisely and consider the numerous factors that can make your Christmas games fun and exciting.

The Rudolph Dash is a fun game to play. You just need to cut out circles out of a red construction paper and any brand of body lotion. Playing it is not so hard as well, just have the players apply lotion on their noses and put the red cut out circles on them.

The game is a relay race to the finish line, and every time the player comes back to the team, a new red dot is added to the nose. If the nose falls to the ground, the player has to go back and apply more lotion, and then put the nose back.

Another game is the Santa Says. It is the same with playing Simon Says, only that Simon is not the one giving out the commands, but Santa.

Fill The Christmas Stocking is also a fun game to play. Each team would need a stocking, a spoon, a bowl, and wrapped candy. The members of each team must be lined up and at the other end; a Christmas stocking should be hung. On the other hand, at the front portion of the line, a bowl of candy and a spoon must be placed.

Each player takes a turn in removing candy from the bowl with a spoon, and then carries the candy to the stocking, only by using the spoon. The first team to fill the stocking is declared the winner.

There are other Christmas games that are worth playing for your Children. However, you have to be choosy in planning the said games for not all games are considered fun for your kids. Some games can be too tiring, and some are require too much thinking. Christmas party games just need to be moderate, not too fun and not too serious at the same time.

Christmas flowers bring in the soft gentle fragrance of different flowers welcoming the festive season of Christmas. With poinsettia, Ivy, Christmas cactus and many different varieties the Christmas wears a colorful look and are just perfect as Christmas centerpieces and Christmas gifts for your loved ones. But what makes the Christmas flowers so significant?

Well to a certain extent the history and legend associated with the Christmas flowers give it a religious importance. For example the Christmas rose has association with the birth of Christ. The legendary story says that at the time of Christ’s birth, wise men and priests took gifts for the newborn baby. But a shepherd maiden named Madelon didn’t have anything to offer. She started crying out of complete hopelessness.

At that time an angel passing by, removed the snow near her feet and revealed the most beautiful white flower tipped with pink. Similarly the holly is known to be the symbol of masculinity and also is said to bring luck. Other than this, the Christmas flower is also known to frighten off witches and evil spirits. The delicate clinging ivy connotes true love and eternal affection in a relationship. Another popular Christmas flower called the mistletoe has its origins in Pagans and is known to have medicinal properties.

Other than the religious significance of the Christmas flowers, these beautiful flowers are also the favorite of all because of the attractive Christmas flower arrangements it makes. You can find a myriad of options in every flower shop offering unique and exotic flower arrangement as Christmas centerpieces. These winter flowers not only add some vibrant hues to the Xmas season but also complement any and every type of Christmas decoration around homes and offices. It can be said, that Christmas flowers are the easiest way to feel the excitement and thrill of Christmas.

And if you are wondering how Christmas flowers and Christmas gifts are related, then simply take one look at the different flower baskets available in all leading florists. You can give Christmas flower gifts to just about anyone. One can also team up their Christmas gifts with a Christmas flower bouquet. These flowers have the magic to make any Christmas present look special and grand.

So the next time you pick flowers for that Christmas flower arrangement or pack that special gift for your wife remember to add the charm of the Christmas flowers to it.

Confess. You have no idea what to get your boyfriend for Christmas. It isn’t that you don’t know him well enough. It isn’t that you don’t have time to shop. There are just too many choices now that the world has become one giant shopping mall. Here are a few suggestions for narrowing the field…

Is your boyfriend the outdoor type?

Sure you could go with hiking boots. Always a safe bet and no hiker could have too many. But every guy loves gadgets, right? How about a solar powered backpack? No, it doesn’t fly you up the mountain. But it does have a series of small panels on the pack that will recharge all his electronics on the way up.

Maybe he’s the intellectual sort?

Ok, some won’t admit it. But many men do like to think. Sure, there’s evidence to the contrary in any case. But it’s Christmas, so how about a little generosity of spirit, here. A fine bestseller or the latest non-fiction book on politics or current events could be just the thing. But it only takes a couple of weeks at most to read a book. A subscription to that obscure journal he’s been denying himself will put you in good for a year.

Does he enjoy sports?

A set of clubs is fine for golfers. A new bag is always appreciated. A super lightweight tennis racket can never fail as a gift. But introducing him to a new sport may be the best idea of all. Skydiving is something most athletes want to try but never seem to get around to. Buy him a day at the jump site and he’ll get all the adrenaline rush any man could want.

Then again, car racing is also considered a sport. A day at the track driving a machine that goes 240 mph is another way to get those juices flowing. And, unlike skydiving, it’s dangerous to boot. What more could any guy want?

Is he a homebody?

Hey, no shame in that. Many men work hard to keep the house in great shape. There is no limit to the gifts available to help make that task easier and more efficient. So, he’ll have more time for you. It might be a polesaw for trimming those upper branches so he doesn’t have to climb up. Or, it could be a set of flower seeds from around the world to bring color to the entire garden. In this area, there are always a 101 things he wants but doesn’t yet have.

Does your guy enjoy traveling?

A cruise is always the perfect choice. Everything from a 1 day excursion to a month or more is an option. He can travel up the coast to Alaska or roast in the sunny Caribbean. It could be a giant five-deck cruise ship or a large sailing vessel that holds only 20 passengers. Of course, if he suggests going without you, you might want to think twice about getting him a Christmas gift at all.

There are thousands of Christmas cards online and in stores for purchase. Many of them display enormous creativity. But you have imagination, too. And when you make your own Christmas card it’s guaranteed to be unique. Often, these are limited to printing a family photo onto the card. But let yourself loose and design a truly different card.

There are two basic ways to go about it, the two already hinted at: online and hardcopy. But even the hardcopy route need not be limited to hand making a card. You can still use the computer if that’s where your skills lie.

If you want to make a completely virtual card, your options are practically unlimited. There are dozens of sites that have templates from which you can choose. But better still is the huge array of clipart that you can take advantage of to design any kind of card you want.

For those with the interest and ability, you can make a card from scratch. Microsoft Publisher and many other drawing programs provide tools to select, mix and match, or draw from scratch a wide range of cards. You can create your own Christmas-themed logo, add self-written text and voila – your own individual card. Email it or print it on card stock and send it out to all your friends and family.

If you choose to go the hardcopy route, there are two basic options within this category, as well. You can design the card on the computer then print it out on card stock, as described above. Or, you can obtain the right materials and create the card completely from scratch.

There are several material options for a Christmas card. Basic card stock is sturdy, easily folded, and absorbs ink and glue well. But you can go with parchment for a more delicate look. Or, select a paper already printed with an elaborate design to which you add images and text of your own.

Christmas cards don’t have to be completely two dimensional either. With clever cutting techniques you can make a fold-out display in the shape of a skyline, an animal, a Nativity scene and others. Just fold the paper into four sections and draw the outline of the scene upside down on the two inner surfaces. Then cut carefully along the outline. When you separate the two outer parts, the inner parts will lift up, showing your scene.

Images don’t have to be limited to ink or paint, though those are fine choices. You can spray or apply glue to sections of the card in the shape of a logo or text. Then, sprinkle small confetti, glitter or other materials onto the surface. Allow it to dry and then shake the card to dislodge the parts not glued down.

For those who have the time and talent, drawing an image is very satisfying. Your own miniature pencil, ink or painted scene can be abstract or representational. You can draw a family member, a pet, a Christmas scene or any of the thousands more that flood your mind. The power of art is at your command to create meaning for you and your recipient.

The celebration of the Christmas season has ancient historical roots, but it serves the same purpose today as it has over all those centuries. It is a time to lift our spirits and glimpse what life could be like all year round.

Some aspects go back to the Druids as early as 3,000 years ago. They decorated trees around the winter solstice and performed many rituals we might recognize. The Roman Saturnalia coincides with the time of year. That ancient people celebrated successful harvests with a week-long celebration. And, of course, many aspects of Christmas and Hanukkah revolve around the Christian and Jewish religions. Many of the modern customs of the season derive those that grew up in England and Germany in the early to mid-19th century.

But whatever the historical origin of this or that part of the Christmas holiday, it is celebrated in hundreds of countries around the world in similar ways. It is one time of the year when everyone is reminded of the many joyous aspects of life. It is a time for exchanging gifts as a token of affection, for parties to enjoy good friends and family. It is a renewal of good will.

All those are given concrete form by the many ways that people around the world enjoy the holiday.

Some of those involve decorating the home or office inside or out. Stringing lights lend a festive air to objects and the buildings that house them. A tree brings nature indoors, while ornaments give it an artistic touch that only humans can provide. Christmas cards are exchanged to remind others that we’re thinking of them and wish them well.

At the same time, socializing rises. That often takes the form of a carefully prepared meal with delightful drinks and delicious desserts. Those parties often extend into New Years because, after all, those ancient traditions continue to operate in some ways in modern times. Even when not thought about, the ways of the past continue to influence the present.

Giving gifts is a big part of the holiday, and for good reason. While it may be the thought that counts, thoughts are made clearer when they’re given expression in reality. A thoughtful gift says you know what another wants. That’s a sign of caring. It’s an act by one person to give up a material value in exchange for another that will bring joy to both. And, after all, joy is non-material even when prompted by an object.

For, everyone will acknowledge that while gifts are delightful, the smile on the face of someone you like is the biggest gift of all. That’s still Christmas, even in the modern world.
